Dr. Rodolfo Vaghetto is a Principal Technical Leader in the Fuel & Chemistry Department, supporting the Advanced Nuclear Technology program with focus on non-aqueous reactor coolant technologies.
Before joining EPRI, Rodolfo worked for NextEra Energy at the Turkey Point Nuclear Power Plant as a reactor engineer, responsible for plant surveillances, fuel performance monitoring, and the execution of different operational tasks. Prior to joining NextEra, Rodolfo was a Research Associate Professor at the Nuclear Engineering Department of Texas A&M University, where he conducted an extensive experimental and computational R&D to support the deployment of Advanced Reactor Technologies (Gas-Cooled Reactors, Liquid Metal Fast Reactors, and Molten Salts Reactors). His focus areas included the design and optimization of reactor components, fuel performance, thermal-hydraulics, and safety analysis. Rodolfo was part of a task force led by South Texas Project Nuclear Power Plant to resolve the generic safety issue GSI-191. Within this framework he conducted chemical effects, debris transport, and in-vessel thermal-hydraulic tests and simulations to evaluate the plant performance under accident conditions. Rodolfo received his doctorate degree in Nuclear Engineering and his Master of Science in Nuclear Engineering from Texas A&M University, and his bachelor’s degree in Nuclear Engineering from University of Palermo (Italy).
